Two for Tuesday...My Monday

Hey y'all! It's Two For Tuesday, again. This time, I'm talking about my day yesterday. It was another Manic Monday in the shit show of Amy's life. Go figure.

Let's follow along, shall we...

First, this happened...
There's NO keeping me away from Chick-Fil-A once peach milkshakes hit the store. It's on like Donkey Kong.

Then, this happened, because of the damned milkshake...

I ended up busting out a little over 4 miles.

My goal of 5 miles last night didn't happen because this had to happen before my knee exploded...

Ice Ice Baby

Classic case of cause and effect last night. I had a peach milkshake (my second in 3 days), so I poured my heart and soul into the gym, then my grandma knees needed ice and elevation. I never thought I'd say this, but I can't wait for my knee surgery! 23 days and counting down.

Second, my 5 weeks to cleaning up your diet challenge was supposed to officially begin yesterday. Oops. That didn't happen. I was pretty horrible in my eating yesterday, but plan to get things on the right track today. Weekly posts will still be on Mondays and I'm hoping some of you will join in with me. Don't forget that this week's challenge is to add real fruits and real veggies to every meal. This morning, I had a cupcake and an apple. I'm meeting a friend for lunch today and plan to have a salad. Hopefully I can kick this thing into high gear and focus on both the gym and eating better at the same time.

Let me know if you're joining along in the challenge! Did you do anything out of your comfort zone yesterday to better yourself?

xoxo!

Two For Tuesday...Two Favorite Things

Hey y'all! It's Two For Tuesday, again. This time, I'm talking about two of my favorite things that have happened in the past weekly episode of Amy's life, aka the shit show.

The struggle has been real, y'all.

...No, not two SHOTS. Although I wish I had two shots. I think I had two too many Saturday night. Jack Daniels- 239, Amy- 0...

1. My manfriend and I went on an accidental overnight trip to the beach. We had originally planned a long weekend away, but then it didn't work out for either of us to take 2 days off work, so day trip to Wilmington/Wrightsville it was. Well, until we get just into Wilmy and my car breaks down. Whomp whomp. And, yes, if you know me, you know I needed 2 shots of my best friend Jack (Holly, you could have had some, too) and a bottle of Xanax. Since neither was an option, I joined AAA over the phone, got the car towed, had an emotional breakdown at the AAA body shop (those people thought I was a crazy lady. If only they had any idea), and ended up spending the night with my aunt and uncle. The Lord was looking out for us when he let my car make it to town instead of the power steering going out driving 80MPH down 40 East.

So, we still got to have lunch at Oceanic and walk down Wrightsville a bit, but even with it 80 degrees out, that ocean breeze was just a little too much. These fish tacos were the bomb dot com. Spicy as hell, but delicious, nonetheless.

Since my car STILL wasn't ready because no one east of the Mississippi (or so it seemed) had the ONE part my car needed, we spent the night and even had the chance to lay on the beach at Surf City Saturday morning for a couple hours. Just what my soul needed. I've always wondered how a person can look at the ocean and the beach and not believe in God. (But that discussion is for another day...)

2. I've been crafting, crafting, crafting and planning away for my friend Ashley's bachelorette night out! I am pretty sure I have been to Michael's and the Dollar Tree about 10 times in the past 2 weeks. I love crafting and planning a good party and can't wait to share a bunch of DIYs, Pinterest-inspired crafts, recipes, and party-planning tips in a blog series after April 26. Can't spoil any surprises for the Bride-to-Be!

Have you done anything exciting but expected in the past week? Ever had the beginning of a trip go way awry but then be amazing? If so, let me know!

xoxo!

Two For Tuesday...Migraines

It is kind-of ironic that I decided Sunday night that I would write this post today, and here I sit, barely able to even look at a computer, with a full-on Migraine hitting me like a dump truck. I knew this morning as soon as I opened my eyes that it was coming. Those of you who have never had this gut-wrenching, whole-body, downward spiral that hits you have no idea. The head pain is only 20-25% of a migraineur's plague. The remaining symptoms are much worse, and after almost 11 years of living with these things, I've experienced almost all possible symptoms.

This is EXACTLY how I feel during 95% of my Migraine attacks. Except picture her hair in a ponytail that has been forced to the side from tossing and turning in bed and her eyes will be dull with pain.

So, today is Two For Tuesday...2 things you need to know about MIGRAINE.

1. Migraine is NOT "just a bad headache." If you even had any idea what my Migraine attacks really consist of, you would NEVER have the balls to say to me, "Do you have another bad headache? Just take some Tylenol." The very sad truth is that no doctor really knows what causes a Migraine attack, why some family members live with Migraine disorder their whole lives and their brother has never had one, or if blood flow, muscles, or if some other neurological anomaly causes them. Thanks to Migraine.com, we can all learn a little more about the disorder, and how to treat those who suffer. Sadly, after so many years of living with Migraine, my attacked morphed into chronic Migraine about 3-4 years ago, but now occur with less incidence, only 1-2 times per week.

Even the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stoke, a part of the National Institutes of Health, have no idea what "migraine" really is. According to their website, The pain of a migraine headache is often described as an intense pulsing or throbbing pain in one area of the head. However, it is much more; the International Headache Society diagnoses a migraine by its pain and number of attacks, and additional symptoms including nausea and/or vomiting, or sensitivity to both light and sound. Migraine is three times more common in women than in men and affects more than 10 percent of people worldwide.

2. There are certain things you should never say to me, either because they are just plain rude, you are ignorant, or have no idea in hell what you're talking about. This is probably the biggest one. Migraine.com has also put together a list of The Dirty Dozen- 12 things to never say to a chronic Migraineur. Number 10 on their list is my favorite- I read about something new that can cure Migraine... While you may think that what you're saying or the advice you're giving is in my best interest or may help me in some way, I promise I've already heard of it. While you wait to read up on the latest and greatest in Migraine prevention and treatment in Sunday's newspaper, I already was following 3 blogs dedicated to Migraine and read the extensive report on CNN on Tuesday when this "breakthrough" was announced. Please STOP with the help; trying to process the words coming out of your mouth is literally making my head hurt.

Do you know anyone who suffers from debilitating Migraine attacks or are you a caregiver? Just a friend? Have a colleague who suffers? If so, I hope some of this information is helpful to you both.

xoxo!
